Ways to Give
Ben Porat Yosef is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization and all gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
There are many different ways you can make a donation to the school. Each gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. We ask every family to give as their means allow – donations range in size and every dollar matters. Your participation is a valuable sign of your belief in our mission and a signal of your pride in BPY.
Our fiscal year runs July 1st through June 30th. The school budget and funding decisions are based on both pledges and donations. We encourage all supporters to make their gift or pledge as early in the fiscal year as possible as possible.
BPY counts on our parents, grandparents, alumni families and friends to celebrate and support our milestone events. Throughout the BPY school year, there are a myriad of ways to enrich our secular and Judaic studies for students, both school-wide and grade specific. Together, we can celebrate the beauty of our shared Jewish values and make an investment in education that will yield dividends for years to come.
To express our gratitude to our generous sponsors, we are pleased to offer:
- Acknowledgement at the sponsored program, including signage and announcements
- Recognition in our daily communications to the BPY community, such as the Daily Bulletin (for BPY parents) and our Faculty & Staff Memo
- Recognition in the BPY weekly newsletter, the Divrei Yosef
Sponsoring a day or week of learning at BPY is a meaningful way to acknowledge a special milestone or to honor or memorialize a loved one.
When you dedicate a day of learning, the day or week of learning sponsorship message (provided by the sponsor) will be:
- Emailed to entire BPY school community (standalone email)
- Announced in morning announcements by our Head of School
If preferred, sponsorship can remain anonymous. Dedications start at $180/day. Submit your request here.

Contributions to the BPY Annual Fund of $1,800 or more are recognized as leadership level gifts and accounted for 74% of fundraising dollars, helping us reach just under $750,000. Leadership contributions signal an invaluable level of confidence in our mission and ensure the School’s ability to fulfill that mission for each child, every day.
To gain approval for restricted/targeted donations, we ask for a minimum $5,000 donation to the BPY Annual Fund. We appreciate your investment in both our annual success as well as your investment in your specific area of interest.
The BPY Scholarship Fund proceeds are specifically designated for need-based financial aid. The Scholarship Fund support helps us accept and serve more students, and a wide range of students and families makes us a better school and stronger community.
Each year, BPY holds an annual Scholarship Walkathon, a culminating event at the end of the academic year, to celebrate the BPY community and our collective grassroots fundraising efforts. This fundraising initiative relies on our close-knit BPY community of current families, faculty and staff as they launch fundraising pages and manage creative fundraising events and social networking to encourage their networks to support BPY.
Donations by check is the easiest and most common way to make a gift. Cash gifts may be used annually as charitable deductions on your federal income tax return to offset up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income.

- Appreciated Securities
Gifts of appreciated securities such as stocks, mutual fund shares and bonds are fully tax-deductible charitable contributions. These gifts are deductible up to 30 percent of your adjusted annual gross income on your federal tax return with the same five-year carry-over deduction provision as cash gifts.
Remember that you must give the security itself, rather than selling it first and giving the cash, in order to avoid paying tax on the capital gain.
- Real Estate
The same tax advantages that apply to stocks and bonds also apply to real estate. You may give acreage, a farm, a lot, a house, a commercial building, or any other kind of real estate and receive a charitable deduction in return. Property must be cleared of any environmental issues and the Board of Trustees must vote to accept it.
- Tangible Personal Property
You may give an asset of value; for example, an automobile, a painting, a coin collection, a piece of jewelry or equipment, etc., and receive a charitable deduction. The donor must have the proposed gift appraised by a qualified professional, subject to approval by the Business and Finance committee.
- Corporate Gifts
Corporations are permitted by law to give away to qualified charitable organizations up to 10 percent of their pre-tax profits in any given fiscal year. This provision offers a double tax savings, in that neither the corporation nor the individual is taxed on the gift.
If you have questions or require assistance in any way to fulfill a gift, please send an email to [email protected]. We are happy to help and look forward to partnering with you to benefit our amazing students.
