Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program

Ben Porat Yosef is proud to witness our students become Bnei and Bnot Mitzvah when they reach the 6th and 7th grades. We feel privileged to be an important part of our students' journeys from childhood into Jewish adulthood and it is an honor for us to watch them flourish into young men and women who look to Torah as their guide in this new stage of their lives.

BPY has an established a bar/bat mitzvah curriculum to help prepare your child for some of the halachic expectations and social challenges associated with reaching gil mitzvot, the age of mitzvah observance. We implement this curriculum in grades 5 & 6 for girls and grades 6 & 7 for boys. This curriculum includes discussion of student concerns associated with becoming bnei mitzvah, a model "celebration" for students to attend, proper decorum we expect students to demonstrate at their own semachot and those of their friends, and the importance of personalized chessed and tzedakah as our students begin strengthening their adult identities and perspectives.

Our Parent Handbook states our policies when it comes to planning both in-school and out-of-school celebratory parties. The handbook also states our policy regarding gifts.

We ask that parents let us know as soon as possible the date of their child's bar or bat mitzvah party so we can keep our master bar/bat mitzvah calendar up-to-date and ensure that there is no overlap or conflicts between families.

If you have questions or to schedule your child's simchah on the calendar, please contact Shoshana Kattan, Programing Director at 201-845-5007 ext. 1824 or by email at [email protected]

For your convenience, you can place your date request by using the form in the following link:
